Magick Everyday: Working with Days of the Week

April 20, 2020 by Josie Hellebore

Working with the phases of the Moon is a staple in most witch’s spell-crafting repertoire. However, there are times that we need to do something now, and waiting for the fortuitous moon phase just isn’t practical. In fact, there are many magickal correspondences that we can use to align our spell work as a means of enhancing its effectiveness. One of my favorite methods is working with the days of the week. Each day holds so many correspondences including planetary, elemental, zodiac, color and deity associations. I remember when I first learned about this technique, my witchy world opened up! Here is a brief overview of correspondences and how you can use the days of the week to enhance your practice.

Days of the Week:

Monday is associated with the planetary correspondence of the Moon, falls under the zodiac sign of Cancer and has the elemental correspondence of Water. This makes it an especially auspicious day to work on anything dealing with psychic abilities (enhancing, channeling, divination), emotions, intuition, fertility, healing and dream work. If you plan to do a candle magick spell on this day, using blue, grey or white will work wonderfully. Gods/Goddess associations include Hekate, Selene, Aegir and Thoth. Angel association: Gabriel. If you work with any of these deities or this angel, then a devotional spell and offering to them would be well-timed.

Tuesday is associated with the planet Mars and the zodiac signs of both Aries and Scorpio, and although Scorpio is a water sign, this day is assigned the elemental correspondence of Fire. All of these factors lead to a favorable time for energy work, creativity, justice work, spells for assertion---even to the extent of aggression. This would be a great day for any social justice advocacy spells, or even a baneful working if the need calls for it. Also, summoning courage, strength and passion for yourself or someone else would be favorable on this day. Use the color orange for any candle magick. Gods/Goddesses: Mars, the God of War, gives this day that added confrontational vibe. He is a god who takes no crap from anyone. Channeling him to help you tap into the assertive aspect of yourself will be helpful, especially if you are a person who struggles with implementing boundaries. Angel: Raphael

Wednesday is associated with the planet Mercury and the zodiac sign of Gemini, (although its ruling planet Mercury corresponds with both Gemini and Virgo, so in my eyes Wednesday corresponds with both of these signs). Mercury rules over communication, so reconciliation work and spells for oration or to improve communication skills within a relationship will be enhanced on Wednesday. Also, personal development and shadow work is advantageous. The elements that correspond with Wednesday are both Air and Water. Gods/Goddesses: Athena, Odin. Odin is referred to as the Allfather in the Nordic tradition. He is given this name because he is the father to many of the other deities within the pantheon and is considered the wisest and oldest of the Gods. If you follow a Nordic Pagan path or if you work solely with Odin, this is a good day for observation and to show reverence for him. Many colors can be implemented on this day including orange, yellow, purple and silver. Angel: Uriel

Thursday is associated with the planet Jupiter, the planet that rules over expansion and optimism, amplifying attraction work of any kind. However, Prosperity and Road Opening spells are two of the most commonly associated with this day. The corresponding zodiac signs are Capricorn and Pisces. Using the same line of thought as I did with Wednesday’s associations, I also add Sagittarius to the list of signs corresponding with Thursday, because that is the zodiac sign analogous with Jupiter. Elements that are associated with Thursday include Air and Fire, but arguably Earth could be mentioned as well due to Capricorn being an earth sign. Although finances are typically associated with Thursday, all spell work relating to matters of success will be fortuitous. Luck, overcoming obstacles (block busting or road opening), legal matters and personal success are all spells with enhanced effectiveness on this day of the week. Gods/Goddesses: Hera, Juno, Jupiter, Thor, Zeus. If you work with the Ancient Greek or Ancient Roman pantheon, this would be a good day to pay homage to the Queen and King counterparts of both respective systems: Juno and Jupiter (Roman) and Hera and Zeus (Greek). Angel: Selaphiel

Friday is associated with the planet Venus, the planet (and Goddess) of love.  It is affiliated with the zodiac sign of Taurus and the element of Earth. Venus additionally rules over Libra, which is an air sign, so that can be incorporated as well. Gods/Goddesses: Eros, Aphrodite, Frigg, Lakshmi, Venus and Freya (Friday is often referred to as “Freya’s Day”).  It should come as no surprise that Friday is associated with love, sex, beauty and fertility with Venus, Aphrodite, Frigg, Freya and Lakshmi being represented. All of these goddess' reign over love, beauty or fertility, and oftentimes a combination of all three. If you want to spice up your relationship, conceive a child, perform a sex magick ritual, attract a new lover, or do a glamour magick spell, this is the day. Pink and red are good candle colors to use for any of these spells, however shades of blue and the color green correspond with Friday also. Angels: Auriel, Raguel and Jegudiel

Saturday is associated with Saturn (imagine that!), the planet that rules over responsibility, self-discipline, limitations and boundaries. Zodiac signs include Aquarius as well as Capricorn and Libra (due to the planetary correlation to Saturn). Elements corresponding to Saturday are Earth and Water. Saturn is the Roman God who is known for liberation and dissolution. Because of this, spells having to do with break ups (yeah, controversial and this isn't’ an endorsement, either, just to be clear), ending a relationship or a partnership of any kind, business, personal, etc. as well as banishment, justice, swift karma and protection spells will all be favorable if performed on a Saturday. Gods/Goddesses: Saturn. Colors: Black and purple. **a black candle is great to use to banish negativity or to reverse a situation, it is not only used in baneful spells**. Angel: Barachiel

Sunday is associated with the Sun and zodiac sign of Leo. I add Cancer and Aries to this because they are also associated with the Sun. The elemental correspondence is Fire, (shocking, I know). In my opinion Sunday is the most diverse day in terms of its spell correspondences. Spells for success, money/prosperity, healing, protection, insight, fame/power, attraction and empowerment are just a few of the spells that can be amplified if performed on a Sunday. Gods/Goddesses: Helios, Brigid. Brigid is the Goddess of Fire and the Hearth and is celebrated on Imbolc, which is known as the “Festival of Lights”. By invoking her on Sundays you can tap into her powers of illumination and maternal energy. Angel: Michael. Archangel Michael is the ultimate warrior. He can be petitioned to help aid your cause or to destroy an enemy. If this is an angel you work with often, Sunday would be an auspicious day for honoring him and offering him gifts of thanks.

Truthfully, these correspondences are just the tip of the iceberg. My hope is that this is enough information to empower you to enhance your spell craft skills as well as inspire you to dig deeper into this oftentimes underestimated method of spell enhancement. As always, be blessed, witchy boos! If you enjoyed this blog post, please like, comment and share!
