Witches We Love: Robyn

We are so excited to introduce one of our favorite babes, Robyn from @atiredwitch. Not only is she an inspiring small business owner & blogger, but she shares her knowledge through a community mentorship and a podcast! Also, she lives in a school bus in the woods- what’s not to love? You can find more about her offerings here!

Be sure to give her a follow, and support her awesome work. What we love most about her is her honesty and lack of inhibition. She isn’t afraid to share hard truths and tell you how it really is. She also has an amazing aesthetic, and will fill your feed with witchy goodness!

We sat down together (digitally, of course!) and did a short interview. Take a moment to get to know here better, We know you’ll love her as much as we do!

What’s the thing that makes you feel most witchy?

It’s the little things if that makes sense. I love a good full elaborate ritual. Casting circles made of candles and pebbles, but the small things make me feel most witchy. For me what makes me feel most witchy is cleaning roadkill to repurpose, or washing my windows in chamomile tea. It’s not the elaborate rituals, but the small acts of grounding and connecting with nature and spirits. Currently, I am in the final stage of cleaning bat bones, from a bat that my cat killed, to use in a chambered pendulum. These small acts although maybe a bit more ornate than the “average” person’s day, are what makes me feel most witchy.

How did you start your craft, and do you still feel imposter syndrome?

I started practicing magick in my tween years. I grew up in a household that was incredibly pro magick, pro ghosts, paranormal, and cryptozoology. My mother now would potential describe herself as a witch, I would always have described her a that, but growing up it was just something I was always really drawn to, I’m 31 now, it been almost 20 years. I know a lot of people speak of a “Calling” that they feel, usually between 16-22, but I never had that experience. I begged my mother to buy me my first tarot deck from an outlet mall at 12, and I have been messing with it ever since. I didn’t fully “come out of the broom closet” until about 5 years ago with my husband, and before I met him I had a drawer in my bedroom that was my functioning altar I hid from friends. Which is funny because talking with them now, they are like “it all makes sense!” I can’t remember exactly how I started, because its been so long ago. And there were many years of growing pains, trying to figure it out, especially from a super young age, when Wicca was the most readily available source of information. Something I have since moved completely away from. I get imposter syndrome all the time. My mentees will ask me questions sometimes and the answers that come out of my mouth are like, holy shit, how do I know that? Haha! I feel really secure in my practice and my path, but especially gaining a following and having a lot of the success I have had, I feel a bit like, “oh my gosh, what if I fuck this up.” I mean, I won’t I AM good at what I do, but I am human at the end of the day and anxiety/self-consciousness isn’t something I am immune to.

Tell me about your work mentoring people!

So myself and my work wife Maria, run a Patreon called Magickal Beginnings, where we write how-to articles, and answer questions from our second and first highest tier on a Patreon exclusive podcast. We have this great little community on discord where we are there just to help people. We’ve got exercises like pairing tarot cards and having our crew give us their interpretations then we give them ours. We have assignments and are just really there to answer any questions anyone has for us. The thing is with magick, is everyone is on their own path. So although we have some structured stuff, its more about being a supportive community for the beautiful people in it, and being there to help them with anything they may need help with. It’s also a judgment-free zone because so much of the internet tells you the “Right” way to do things when there isn’t necessarily a right way. Instead of providing that, we give them options and how *we* would do it, by trying our best to give alternative options. Because although it’s not necessarily how I would do it, doesn’t make it wrong.

Do you have a favorite sabbat or ritual?

I love anything celebrating the dead. I work mostly with spirits, so any time I can interact or do ritual work specifically dedicated to that, I am all in. My favorite Sabbats are Beltane and Samhain, for the cliche obvious reasons haha! I just love spring and anything symbolic of new life. I think its sweet, and something that does really remind us all everything always comes full circle. Ritual work for me is a day in and day out practice that isn’t very elaborate. I mean yes, I do, do elaborate ritual work but not all the time. Rituals for me come int he form of daily offerings, and personal tarot draws. Sitting down at my altar and really just allowing myself space to ground for the day and prepare for whatever I have going on that day. It’s not so elaborate or picturesque, but its mine.

Who are some of your inspirations?

Oh my gosh, so many people. Maria, my work wife, is a huge inspiration to me, she works so hard and brings a motherly touch to everything that I find inspiring. Stephen, @awitchespath is just this wild old sage, only he’s my age and not old at all. He and I actually had a conversation recently about the word elder and what that means to us. His viewpoints and ability to articulate exactly what he is thinking is really amazing to watch. I struggle sometimes to put to words what I am thinking, and watching him do it with such ease and perfection is an incredible thing. Temperance @wildwoman_witchcraft inspires me in a very different way. Her energy mirrors my own in a lot of ways. Watching her speak about things is sometimes like reading my own words, which really cracks me up. I like seeing her take on magick in general because its a beautiful branch away from “Wiccan based magick” which is something I personally find refreshing. I mean honestly speaking the list goes on and on. Finally, my friends Trisha and Drew, who have started a subscription box, that some people may know as the W box, which has been inspirational to watch grow. I love that they had this idea and seeing it actually play out has been an amazing thing to see! I could probably name like 40 other people, but I think that people might get bored of that! haha!
It’s cool having friends that have big goals like yourself because I struggle to have pride sometimes in my own accomplishments. So I can pour into others what I want to see done for myself if that makes sense? I love watching everyone do their thing and do a great job at it!
